Some partners and I have just started up a new publishing concern. To begin with, we're going to concentrate on children's books... and especially picture books.
To kick-start our "publishing hut" - and to celebrate the 150th birthday of Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland - we're holding a competition with the theme "What Alice means to me". More information here: http://la-granota.com/party.htm but, before you get TOO excited and rush to that web-page, I should warn you that the prizes aren't great stuff. The book that results is to be titled Alice And I, and most of the profits will go to child-orientated charities.
GET YOUR CHILDREN/GRANDCHILDREN/NIECESandNEPHEWS/NEIGHBOURS to join in. And get them to tell their schoolmates. As with Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland, there's NO AGE LIMIT, but we'd LIKE a good mix of young and young-at-heart.
On a general level, submissions are open. See http://la-granota.com/crazy.htm
And - now that I've got your attention: If any of you are lawyers (especially experts in copyright law) or research fanatics, PLEASE send me a private message. (Go to https://www.writersandartists.co.uk/community/members , search my name, and click on "connect".) I'm trying to locate the copyright holder of an out-of-print book. (Don't suggest the Society of Authors as the book was published in another country, and the SoA don't give out information to non-members anyway.)
Thanks!
We particularly wanted to get this project announced in schools. Here in Germany, this is complicated as education is organised on a council level: there's no country-wide body that could send the message out to all schools. So far, I've just put up a poster in my local library, but it's early days yet.
Having written that, I should remind people that this contest isn't open to ONLY school-aged people.
Sounds fantastic! I will share the info with my students; make them go through the Classic once again and come up with their very own 'Alice and I' stuff.
Besides other aspects, I shall stress the philanthropic aspect of the project to make it more gratifying!
All the very best with your endeavour!
