Hi; I've just registered on this site and wondered if anyone here is from East Devon or thereabouts. I've been writing fiction for six months and completed second draft of Crime novel (90,000) and finished two short stories. Need motivating and local discussion/critique.Tried local writer groups but didn't find them interesting or helpful. Would like to start a new small group for people similar to myself.
Hi Ashley,
I'm from Torquay, writing humorous sci-fi/fantasy and general humour. I have one published book and some published short stories. Writing groups are OK (I used to run Newton Abbot and District Writing Circle for many years) but they generally don't gave the time nor expertise to look at longer works. I also used to beling to an online group which I found very useful, a number of the members later went on to become quite successful in their own fields. I would suggest that you try to link up with individual writers or multiple writers who can give critiques at leisure online. I, oir one, am happy to do that.
Thanks Julie, Susan, Joe and Carmen for your responses. I will follow them up and post any points of interest.
Hi Ashley, I live in Cornwall, near Liskeard, so just over the Tamar. I belong to 4 writers groups. One in Liskeard library, one at the Liskerrett Centre which is really helpful. We critique each others work and give feedback. I belong to the Caradon Writers and we published an anthology of short stories last September titled 'Mining For Words'. I live in the Caradon Hill area. The U3A has a Scribble group and I joined that for a bit of fun. We meet once a month and write stories of 1000 words to share.
