Author's Licensing and Collecting Society

Last week someone kindly responded to a question with a suggestion I join the ALCS. Before I pay up the £25 membership fee, and sign away 9.75% commission on any royalties they collect, I would really value hearing from anyone else who uses them as I have gleaned very little information about them except what they say on their website. Forgive me for being ignorant about this as a new kid on the block, but ...well, are they OK? Can I trust them with my bank details? Is this a great and valid service? And could this potentially impact my relationship with an agent/publisher which I shall soon be pursuing for a novel? ... and if the lady who replied last time sees this and feels able to add anything, that would be superb.. Thanks.

Actually, I laughed out loud when I read your reply, in good humour - not offence! Though I did wonder if you had any reason for your mistrust or if it were just an inkling....

I suspect Lorraine's answer may have been slightly more useful than mine Ann, not a lot of course, as my unique insight is always value, but certainly a little.

And you can ask her if I punctuated the above correctly (probably not).

Thank you, both, for your input!

And thanks, Lorraine, that sets me a little more at ease in regard to them being reputable and that it would not affect a future agent relationship (how's that for faith that I will get one?!!). I may contact them as suggested, then go from there before I sign up. I really appreciate your time given to reply as it is something I know so very little about.
