My inspiration usually comes from two different things - Books and Comics. I like to mix the way which books tell us a history with the action of comics. I'm pretty sure this is my big differential. My favorite book authors are Daniel Handler, Philip Pullman, George R. R. Martin, Tolkien and Stephen King. About comic authors, I like especially those from Japan and U.S.
Oh! Talking about the inspiring places... check up this blog post:
Although I write little bits n pieces of all sorts the genre I love is fantasy fiction aimed at young adults. I have 5 children (yes 5!) and they love fantasy. My youngest are girls who are obsessed with magic and fairies etc. My oldest is ten and he loves Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Vampire Diaries and Twilight (although I will state he reads above his age) I take a lot of my ideas from the weird and wonderful things they come out with. They will read a book or watch a film and look at it from a completely different perspective.
I spoke to someone recently who volunteered to read to children at a library, that way they could get great feedback and ideas although not on their own work obviously.
I think you can take your inspiration from anywhere, the trick is to forget logic - kids generally do not have it
Why not share some work on this site? Then we can see for ourselves what inspires you. :-)
