Maybe it's a dumb question but does age really matter? I'm 17 and I've been told that I'm too young..

I too would echo the sentiments of Louise, I'm 26, I started writing [properly] about two years ago, it started purely for pleasure, and now I am on the editing process.
Prior to that, during my formative years, I had only written really angsty poetry, believing one day that I would be in a 'big rich rock band'. Sadly though, that dream never really came to reality as I was a better 'listener' of rock music than a 'player of', and instead I spent the majority of my time studying Graphic Design.
If it is your passion, and you get a thrill when you write, I say keep doing it. As you get older, you will learn new ways of writing. If you are good enough you are old enough, please don't let age be a barrier to your enjoyment, and dreams, whatever genre.
I'm turning 18 this December, so hopefully that will solve 'being a minor' issue.
My dad runs a children textbook publications and I turned down his request to compile a grade 5th's English book. So, he doesn't really have a clue. My mother might know though.
I hope this doesn't have an adverse effect.
Yes, I have shared a short story on this site. Thanks for your consent.
@Louise That's the problem, I don't know whether I'm good enough to continue writing. I mean, I wish to write more and I won't give up, but I'm not so sure from getting published kind of view.
Also, my parents are unaware of it, so I don't have any guidance and support.
p.s. They wold have issues with my genre (Romantic fiction)
