am writing a story which is set in London during the 1960s. I want to understand life and language back then. Can anyone recommend any books set in this time and place or were published in the sixties who's story was also set in London at this time.
I really want to get a feel on what it was like and the language used etc.
Many thanks in advance.
I don't have much to add to this (although Lynne Reid Banks 'The L-Shaped Room' always seemed very evocative to me), but I felt as if I'd slipped into 60s London on Sunday! I was passed by a long line of Mods on Vespas, then a Sixties sounding band were doing covers outside Kings Cross!
See if you could talk to a person who lived in the 60s, you would get their feelings and experience's. Also a library, there great for information.
Rebecca,
I forgot one very important thing when listing the events of the sixties. The CND or Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, led by Bertrand Russell. The Easter Marches did bring awareness, but did not change a great deal as we can see today. I joined one of these marches and had blisters on my feet for about two weeks afterwards. My parents thought I was crazy, but it was an experience never to be forgotten. The feeling that you might be helping is motivation enough.
