Study the blurbs on the backs of books lining your shelves at home. Choose ones in your genre that have influenced you, or you feel close to stylistically.
Can you write something like this, but in a couple of sentences (with your genre, word count and any comparisons made around this)?
A blurb is a slightly longer pitch that you can often find on the back of a book. I'm going to use a blurb example from one of my favourite recent reads, The Chime Seekers by Ross Montgomery.
When an evil faerie steals Yanni's baby sister and swaps her for a changeling, Yanni is swept into a dangerous race against time to get her back. But faeries delight in tricks and rescuing her won't be easy. With the help of his cousin Amy, and the reluctant changeling, Yanni must travel to goblin palaces and battle-swept oceans, discovering ancient treasures and secrets along the way. Yanni will need every drop of courage and even a few tricks of his own, if he's to outwit the faerie and save his sister...
Now it's your turn to write a blurb for your story. Remember to tell your audience what is at the very heart of your story.
