If you are serious about getting published, this one-day conference on Saturday 5th November 2011 has everything you need to know. Network with high-level agents and publishers and meet the successful teams behind the scenes.

This event is hosted twice annually by the publishers of the Writers’ & Artists’ Yearbook, the bestselling media guide for emerging writers and artists since 1901.

The day gives you a complete practical overview of how to get your work ready for submission, and will be filled with top tips, advice and feedback from industry specialists.

2. Speaker profiles

Richard Charkin is Executive Director of Bloomsbury Publishing Plc. He has held senior positions at Macmillan (CEO worldwide), part of Verlagsgruppe Georg von Holtzbrinck (Director); Current Science Group (CEO); Reed Elsevier (CEO Reed International Books); and Oxford University Press (Managing Director Academic and General Divisions).

Julia Green is the Course Director on the MA in Creative Writing for Young People at Bath Spa, and has had three novels published by Puffin. Breathing Underwater, published in May 2009, is her first for Bloomsbury.

Elen Caldecott is a writer for children and young people. Before becoming a writer, she was an archaeologist, a nurse, a theatre usher and a museum security guard. It was while working at the museum that she realised there a way to steal anything if you think about it hard enough. She either had to become a master thief, or create some characters to do it for her so began her debut novel, How Kirsty Jenkins Stole The Elephant.

Nicolette Jones is a writer, journalist and broadcaster who has worked for national newspapers and the book trade press. Specialising in literary and arts journalism, she is the children’s books reviewer for The Sunday Times (see links). Her award-winning book about the Victorian philanthropist Samuel Plimsoll and his campaign on behalf of sailors, The Plimsoll Sensation (Little, Brown/Abacus), was a Radio 4 Book of the Week (see home page for reviews). She is Director of the children’s programme at the Sunday Times Oxford Literary Festival for 2010 and 2011, a Royal Literary Fund Fellow at University College, London for 2010-12, and a children’s book scout for the Louise Allen-Jones Agency.

4. Location details

The Wellcome Collection is a tremendous space in the heart of London with great train links from two major rail stations and links to most major underground networks. You can eat in comfort and style at the gallery’s cafe or venture into one of the nearby neighbourhoods for a lunchtime treat.
