Paying those bills, bills, bills
'The transactional finance team are at the beginning stage of when a book is about to be published. We pay the freelancers, we pay the editors, we pay illustrators. We also pay for paper and are also involved in paying for our rent, teabags etc. My role as a transactional finance manager is to ensure that all of our purchases, all of our sales and banking is recorded accurately and in a timely manner.'
Finance as a gateway
'Finance has been a gateway to various industries. I've worked in banking, media, fashion, hospitality, and now I'm working in publishing.'
Development opportunities
'The other side of my role is the managing of my team. Within my team, I have people who have come in with a range of experience and a range of educational accomplishments. It's not about what you have educationally, although we do require that you have basic GCSEs entry level, it is really about your drive and your passion for what you want to do in terms of if you do want to pursue a career in finance or a career in accountancy. When you do join our team, we do offer study packages where we will nurture and grow you within the role.'
