Now in our fifth consecutive year of the W&A Working-Class Writers' Prize, we were thrilled to receive the highest number of entries since our inaugural year! We've poured through 283 stories to bring undiscovered talent fully into the light.
This year, we celebrate a longlist of stories, which take us all over the globe. From a mountainous village in Lebanon, the streets of Walthamstow, and the waters of Northern Ireland, to 1960's Illinois, waiting rooms in Istanbul, a struggling steelworks in a small town and more! A huge congratulations to the following writers and their stories.
Street Sweeper by Bren Gosling
The Drowned Bird by Furhad Khan
Hosanna by Alice McCusker
Tenebrae by Jon Doyle
Narrow Waters by Ciara McVeigh
Tapha by Emily Abdeni-Holman
Exit Here by Hibaq Obsman
This year’s judge Kasim Ali, is now finalising our shortlist of five writers, including our winner and two runners-up. We are planning to share the results at the beginning of December.
Once again, many congratulations to those writers who have been longlisted and a thank you to everyone who entered. Every will receive feedback and we are aiming to deliver this to all entrants by the end of January 2024.
We truly appreciate you taking the time to submit your work to us and we hope that you continue to write and tell your stories because we all certainly need them now than ever.
