A new year always brings new creative endeavours. At the turn of 2022, we ran a competition that asked creatives to share their 2023 writing goals with us.
Arrthi Little won our competition with her honest, humorous submission about her year ahead. We hope that the Scrivener subscription and creative writing book bundle will help her finish that full manuscript!

'As the shortest day ever looms I am wrapped in my hooded robe, blanket and fingerless gloves. This time, however, the freezing weather won’t dampen my spirits. My ambitions are like my juicy joints, still energised from Orlando's sticky summer heat, where I put on those mouse ears and flew an elephant, finally fulfilling my lifelong dream. Not only am I rejoicing that I haven’t met my demise by sitting on my bottom too much (not a lifestyle choice; it comes with the job), but also having received a message of a lifetime while at the world’s most magical place.
Before all these highs, I was down the dumps. Hitting a brick wall that I didn’t seem to be able to break down. I wasn’t being seen or heard as people see my South Asian name and I never hear back unless my husband David with his (let’s face it) quite banal name steps in and assures them that I am legitimate. While on my ignorantly blissful holiday I woke up to an email that blew my mouse ears off. My comic book pitch earned me a place in the HarperCollins Author Academy. I felt elevated which gave me fresh hope for my return. Now with the HarperCollins masterclasses under my belt and recharged from my trip – I’m well on my way, fully fuelled, like an unruly Mustang ready to hit the open book and have a full manuscript in the bag ready to submit to publishers before it’s time for strawberries and cream at Centre Court.'
Congratulations to Arrthi! You can follow her on Twitter, Instagram, or check out her website.
