Character Names

Do you find it difficult to name your characters so that they feel real? I find it hard sometimes to find a name to suit my characters and would spend time trying to find the right name to suit my characters. What is your process for naming characters?

I keep a list. Whenever I come across an interesting or unusual name I add it, and it's surprising how often you can make up something suitable from that. I have one baddie who's named partly for a Dickensian character and partly for a convicted child molester, which seemed to suit pretty well :)

Oh I like that idea, I do the same for names of places, should have thought to do it for character names too. I came across a place name while on holiday last year, Tattyknuckle Road, and thought that was awesome!
