Hello everyone, If I may ask how many of you are participating in the competition 'JOY'.

who has submitted and who are waiting (like me) till the clock ticks 12, on the 15 feb.

I think (hope) that the fact that they didn't ask it to be about the emotion of Joy and that it just needed to be about the theme of Joy, leaves it open to a very broad interpretation.

If it doesn't, and all those of us whose dark humour underpins just about everything we do, say or write, haven't a chance in Hell of winning.

I'm fairly sure they will give NO POINTS for including "Joy" in the title or for having the word "Joy" mentioned anywhere within the text, however, if they do then I'M DEFINITELY GOING TO WIN!!!

And with that in mind I'm now sitting, waiting for my phone to ring with a bottle of cheap Sparkling Wine in one hand and a corkscrew in the other.

I do hope it doesn't take to long for them to call. It's remarkably difficult to do anything whilst holding a large bottle of wine and corkscrew, except drink the wine of course, although I'd need a glass as well to do that, which could make life even more difficult.

Oh God, I hope I win!

I've changed my mind. Typing this has already taken far too long, being encumbered with the bottle of wine and the corkscrew, and have now convinced myself that I definitely won't win being that the main character (Joy) was completely naked during a least the last 1,000 words and that I also happened to describe some parts of her anatomy in some detail. Oh, and the fact that I described the process of seeing someone have their head blown off with a shotgun in fairly graphic form.

But Shaun is right, they did both go over the cliff face and at which point Joy became over-joyed, and with all that in mind I should have perhaps called it "Joy becomes over-joyed with her new Jumping for Joy ploy ("ploy" also happening to rhyme with "Joy"). I Reckon I'd have gotten at least 3,500 points for that title, and that's before they even read it!

I'm now in two minds as to whether I'll win or not, and may just drink this fine, if not still very cheap, bottle of sparling wine whilst contemplating both scenarios.

Hi all,

I'm new to this forum and I'm entering my story in the next couple of hours. I don't have "joy" in the title and I haven't used it as a character name. There's a brief reference to the word, but other than that, I've treated it as a theme because as far as I understand it, that's all entrants had to do. The story deals what gives different people joy, and there's a pinch of schadenfreude thrown in.
