Are we all aboard the good ship HMS Historical Competition - or are some of us waiting for the final bell to be struck at midnight?

I sent mine during the week - an excerpt of my side-lined & partly written novel set in present day & 1800s. I'm not seriously expecting anything to come of it (I found it difficult to conjure up the period convincingly within 1000 words without being OTT) but really enjoyed tightening up my piece. It also rekindled my enthusiasm to get back to work on actually finishing the novel, so all good stuff :)

I sent mine during the week, then made the fatal mistake of reading it again and thought 'I should have changed that, and that, and maybe that...'

You know when you come out of an exam and think 'Damn, I got that answer wrong'? That's me, that is ;)
