Well... I have just self published my short story on amazon for kindle. Thing is I can't seem to find how many buyers it has had! I know my friend has purchased a copy already... Any suggestions?

Go to http://www.novelrank.com and register you and your book. It's a completely free-to-use book sales-logger for anything on Amazon. Not always perfect but it'll give you a decent idea of what sales you're getting and where (.com, .co.uk etc) and it updates figures every couple of hours.
You can get sales details from your KDP account but they're always at least 24 hours behind. And from what I've heard they may not be accurate, either, unless Amazon have sorted their reporting system out.
