Short Story Competition 2023

by Dionne Free
15th April 2023

Hi, I entered the short story competition this year. The winner was supposed to be announced in March, however I can't seem to find any announcement and it's now mid April. Am I looking in the wrong place? Does anybody have the information?

Replies

Hi Dionne. We emailed all entrants in March to say that there was a need to extend the deadline due to the high number of entries. We also emailed all entrants earlier this week to inform them of the longlist being announced. This contained a link out to a blog post confirming the longlisted stories (which can be found here: https://www.writersandartists.co.uk/advice/writers-artists-short-story-…) while a newsletter went out earlier today with a link to that same page. If you're not receiving emails from us then I can take a look at this issue. Please can you drop us a line at writersandartists@bloomsbury.com so I can make sure we have the best email address for you? Thanks!

Hi, Dionne
This is the email I received on Feb.22
Good afternoon,

Thank you so much for entering the W&A Short Story Competition 2023. Our internal team are busy with reading your stories and we’re thrilled to have received over 850 of them!

Due to the high number of entries received, we’re emailing to let you know that we will require a bit more time to get through them. As a result, we’ll be delaying our longlist announcement until mid-April, with a shortlist and then overall winner (and two runners up) announced on our site by the end of that same month (alongside feedback from our judge, Naomi Booth) This slight delay and staggered approach will allow time for us to contact all non-longlisted entrants by email in advance of it being published on our site.

And by way of thanks for your understanding – and also for taking the time to enter our competition – please accept our offer of an exclusive discount code!
....

Hope this helps.
