Hello! I recently completed a speculative/fantasy novel and am now querying agents. My text doesn’t strictly follow the fantasy tropes that are trending now (it’s definitely not romantasy); should I be editing it to better fit expectations though? Or should I be approaching really niche agents and indie publishers?
I also have some published work but this is in the academic field. I’ve mentioned it in query letters but I’m worried this might be a deterrent. Is it?
