My prisoner, My guard

by Sum Nemo
11th July 2017

Gently, my heart beats with kindness

Down, down low where there’s such silence

Where no man nor woman has been

And no creature knows what happens.

Under lock and key I keep it

Far away from human feeling

For to know now what I am

Would be selfish to pretend

That you care for it at all,

Treason is behind it all

For you lie, you lie! My lover

Coward, coward fool another...

Shame to be betrayed just once

Even sinful twice...but the third time that you try,

May it be your last!

For right next to gentle lies, revenge and it is faithful,

Faithful more to me than you, run my lover, run it’s true.

You say I’m cold and blind and deaf yet wasn’t I who warmed your bed?

You say I’m selfish, far and cruel yet was it not I who wept for you?

When despair took over grief and you’ve lost all will to live,

Was it not I that embraced your faults and accepted all your wrongs?

And what of now? You cry still yet accuse the hand that wills,

Wills you to be a better friend, a better lover, a better man.

Even so, rebuke still greets me, from those eyes who seek to keep me,

Keep me a prisoner of false thoughts of false feelings, ohh unrequited love...

How far must I run from you? How long must it pass, before your hold weakens its grasp?

Before the last is last? No, I will not continue, even though you wail,

Even though you beg for mercy, even though you care...

For when did care replace love, lover? No don’t ask, don’t dare!

I am done with such reasons for suffer, lost and despair...

Gently, gently, my heart beats with kindness,

Way down low where there’s such silence.

This took me on a journey, some of it felt quite familiar. I like the rhythm too.
