Joe Mathey, actor and star of the 'Jack Maude: Above the Law' TV detective series is having difficulty differentiating his real life from that of his TV character. Advised to get away and ground himself, he goes back to the village where he was born.
Unknown to him, multiple peculiar deaths have been ravaging the village and he is accidentally charged with investigating them. It soon becomes clear that, as the deaths become more surreal, coming home was to be the biggest mistake of his life.
Why are the police disengaged from the deaths? Why does his dead wife's twin hate him? Why does everyone have less of a grip on reality than he does? Why is Leo, his autistic niece, the key to everything?
What happens when the people he loves become the people trying to kill him? And what has reality got to do with any of it?
