THE SYRINGE

CDR I believe we’ve had a problem here

Discontented with its fate, a single use, dispensable object, the syringe lost its patience. Realizing that, the Easy Touch safety syringe found itself trapped into a sterile, mean, claustrophobic foil, closed inside a transparent plastic box. All the other syringes, be it with or without needles, oral or otherwise, were having forty winks, totally unware of the current situation. Given that she couldn’t elude the concrete conditions, the syringe withdrew into its own imagination. Lying there, horizontally, day and night, without being able to move a single millimetre, the syringe started to think it might be an Apollo 13 Boeing rocket, with a Lunar Module Adaptor, a Third Stage S-IVB, a Second Stage S-II, a First Stage S –IC, two J 2 engines, a Lunar Roving Vehicle, together with Command and Service Modules. Unfortunately, the Launch Escape System was missing.

Soon, the syringe got bored to be a rocket, without having the slightest chance of exploring the deep cosmic space. It’s not fun at all to be a ground missile, it is even worse than being a common hypodermic. Such a grand destiny! The whole Universe as a playground! So many possibilities ahead, and absolutely no means to fructify them … A series of three dots (...) is used to designate those portions of the text that could not be transcribed because of garbling. At that point, a new idea sparkled inside its mind: to turn into a fish. A streamlined, slippery fish, which can swim horizontally and vertically, well - thought the injection - some of them can even jump out of the water, like the mountain trout. Indeed, a full bouquet of aquatic, ichthyologic potentials and prospects.

The heart leapt in the syringe’s chest, and stopped immediately. A fish is bound to live in the water, it could die if dares to desert its environment! This could be a factual problem, an unmanageable obstacle, without a doubt. What else could it be? Oh, yes, it could be a proudly designed, full flex, superfine carbon cork for fishing rods, meant to catch the fish. Throw the bait, wait and elegantly extract the fish from its atmosphere, for instance a river, a lake or a small stream pocket water, expose it to oxygen and see what happens.
