Today

Today,

I just couldn't be that person,

That person

I want to be.

I tried,

I really did,

But today was not for me.

When alone,

Still, calm and with time,

We are limitless.

The world around us

So fast,

mistaken,

easy to spot the error.

How different we might act,

to those deluded others

who seem to mindless,

lost,

And without thought.

But when,

It was my turn,

I.....I,

no better.

The ocean appears

so swimmable

When observed

From the shore.

Yet once submerged,

fighting the relentless waves

the only

real option.

Yesterday's self image

carried

With care

into today.

That's who I was,

so that

Is who I will be.

But today didn't permit

That idol

to survive.

Cast from it's presumed altar,

That idol fashioned

for someone

no longer here.

Yet once smashed

into many,

many pieces,

Only then

was I free

to start again.

And only then,

did today

really begin.

Hi Giles,

I liked this - particularly the lines 'When alone ... we are limitless' and 'The ocean appears/ So swimmable/ When observed/ From the shore'. They sound a bit like proverbs :-)

Thanks for sharing!
