Unrequited

And the hole you left,

I filled with the summer

Of cocktails and weeping laughter

Of faces blurred by flashing lights

Of music pulling on the heart

And making me sway

Hazy and dreary eyed

I spent never a moment lone,

For fear of a tortured soul.

Words lay at my feet

Swell my ego,

And I gaze upon many faces with confident contempt,

You won’t have me and you never will.

I stumbled into bed,

And my pain was kissed away

By patient lips,

Unspoken words seared my skin

And with a sigh, my world came undone

Warped shadows lingered like ghosts

And I fell
