Linda, a well-known artist of more than 30 years, learned to draw at a young age from her grandfather, Disney Artist George Drake (hired by Walt Disney in 1929 to hire and train new artists for the fledgling Disney Studio). The classic illustrations by Howard Pyle, NC Wyeth, Norman Rockwell, Arthur Rackham, and later Andrew Wyeth inspired Linda, a voracious reader of illustrated books, to pursue painting. She received John Gnagy's Art Studio in a Box when she was ten years old. It had manuals and materials for oil, watercolor, and sketch paintings. She also had numerous chances to see the works of her favorite artists when she went to the Barnsdale Park Art Gallery and the Los Angeles Museum of Art. Through years of life drawing seminars at Long Beach City College, where she studied watercolor under the expert guidance of Mike Daniel, Linda's drawing abilities were honed (from 1981-1992).
Interview with Color In Your Life
