agency submissions

When submitting to an agent I have read that it is good practise to compare your MS with a similar author's work. Does this necessarily mean that the author should be one on the agent's books?

You should describe your genre so the agent can assess whether they are able to effectively sell your work. Making yourself very clear is quite important because the agent will be thinking about which publisher to approach, so plenty of description on your content, style, and even your target market is helpful, but directly comparing is a very bad idea.

I agree. I haven't hear this from UK Agencies. The best thing to do is to get in a good hook really quickly and show from, what you send them that you are taking it seriously and can deliver.
