Agent replies

Hi

I've been submitting my novel since November to around eight agents a time, and the first round received replies within eight weeks with one request for full. The second round I sent at the end of January I have not received a single reply to other than auto acknowledgement of receipt from a couple. I know early year is a busy time for agents which is why I waited until the end of January. Should I chase them or just presume it's a no from all. The first round all sent a rejection email and this is awful just hanging!! Help what do I do?

I decided to call them up -well four that had nothing indicating timescale on their sites -and they were very nice, checked their databases and said they were busy with the New Year rush and hadn't considered my work yet. They all apologised for the delay and assured me they would be in touch asap.

Many agencies now say that if you do not hear from them within a certain timeframe ie 6-8 weeks, that you won't be hearing from them. I agree with John that it's unprofessional - however it does just seem to be how it is. I am going through the same process and it is awful just hanging on - I do sympathise. Consider it their loss and submit to a new round of agents, that would be my advice. Good luck!
