Amount of words a day

I am currently taking some time out of paid work to have a break and write fulltime (long story) so I write every weekday and sometimes at the weekend. However, I tend to be quite hard on myself if I only manage to write 1000 words that day. Other times I can write more but just wondered if I should be more disciplined or less harsh on myself. I'm not always happy with what I've written and go back and edit frequently. I know we are all different in what we write but just wondered if others feel the same about their writing.

@Victoria Thank you - that cheered me up too.

@ Louise I'm feeling much more positive now. It seems to vary greatly the amount people write daily and I think I'm actually doing ok now. I may try the 500 words and having a break tip and see how it goes. Thank you

On the cover of April's Writing magazine Cathy Kelly says she's happy to only do three hundred words per day.

That cheered me up, anyway.

Thanks Chhavi. Writing at home and not being in touch with other writers, I'm interested to know what they do with their work. I do tend to edit as I go along and then, when I've completed my work, I have a couple of good friends who will critique it for me and let me know what's missing or inconsistencies etc
