Love my beta readers! I'm always so excited to hand them something and wait for the answer. My scripts usually come back with all the commas I've refused to put in!
But it's great to get your first comments, even if some of them are memorable for the wrong reasons. I remember getting 'Everyone smiles rather a lot, don't they' 'I can't believe how awful you've made their families' and 'You're taking that pillow fight out immediately. It's a cliché.'
But I think my favourite comment is from someone recently who said it wasn't at all the book she was expecting. She didn't know what she was expecting, but it wasn't that. Then she gave me a hug and congratulated me.
