Becoming a better writer ? Whats the best way?

Reading books, studying how too books, visiting websites, paying for feedback, studying, just plain hard slog writing and rewriting? What's the best way to be a better writer in your opinion?

I keep wondering if I should go on a course, can anyone recommend something suitable for a person who works full time?

Please don't say Arvon...I tried that and it wasn't for me, plus its soo expensive.

Oh and books can help. I like "Is There a Book in You?" by Alison Baverstock as it's easy to dip in and out of.

I get tips from established authors - online or whenever they are on TV or the radio. I just watch out for interviews and often gain good advice or at least find them interesting. Talks at festivals can be inspirational and don't have to be expensive. I paid £6.50 to hear my favourite author talk! I also get support from friends I made at two local evening classes for creative writing and from "regular" friends and family! I know the main way that my writing has improved is through getting on with it. I try to write every day and am often amazed at the stuff I used to produce! I'm so much better now.

And, of course, read read read! Good luck!
