I've just shared a poem entitled "One Of The Lucky Ones (The Treasure)", which was nudged into being by Daphne Milne's Q&A "Poem/workshop help please" (https://www.writersandartists.co.uk/question/view/2743).
It's in free verse, 67 lines (425 words) long, narrated by a young refugee woman, and can be found at https://www.writersandartists.co.uk/profile/jimmy-hollis-i-dickson/work/5876be2e387140b15c8b4569
While I was at it (sharing work), I also shared a piece of flash fiction. (Remit: any subject, but ONLY dialogue which defines the personalities of the characters.) Entitled "Self Defence, Safe Passage, Insurance Policy...", it has 489 words and can be found at https://www.writersandartists.co.uk/profile/jimmy-hollis-i-dickson/work/5876c6273871406b618b4569
Feedback appreciated!
I understood that it was going to be on the 14th...
The book will have an ISBN. We hope to launch it in printed form at the Barcelona book fair on the 23rd of April. If you're a facebook user, you can join the group La Gr@not@ and keep yourself informed. If you apply to join from outside, a moderator needs to approve your entry, but, once in, you can add FB friends without moderator involvement.
Not to hold out much hope of getting a response from workshop, it's on Monday 23. I'll have a look to see if I have anything appropriate. Will the book have an ISBN number or is it on-line only?
Daphne
Hi, Daphne!
Thanks VERY much for the praise. I'm glad that you like the poem.
I would appreciate it if you could manage to squeeze it into the workshop in 2 days' time.
For one thing, your workshop title was midwife to its birth.
For another, the 'Strangers' anthology has as deadline for submissions the 25th of this month. That's less than 2 weeks away. And so far, we've received only 4 stories, this poem, and one painting (which will appear in the book AND serve as a reward in our kickstarters appeal for funding). There's the promise of a few more pieces, but you never know when Life is going to get in the way of the creative muse. One of our big hopes' 2 young children came down with chicken pox over the xmas hols. A big hello to Georgia and Greg! Glad to hear that you're better!
We're also hoping that lots of people have been holding back on submitting until close to the deadline, so they can edit and polish until the very last minute. Very laudable, but it leaves us at La Gr@not@ biting our fingernails.
So if this poem can inspire members of your workshop to submit something of their own, that would be a GREAT help!
I repeat here the site for more information: http://la-granota.com/stranger.htm (Including the .htm is essential, as is the hyphen!)
