Biographies and credits

Right well I have decided to write a biography, a friend asked me to put his story down on paper and it seems quite interesting and worth it so I accepted the proposal. I just have a few questions first of course if it were to be published a percentage would have to go to him I mean it is his story after all, but how much 10...20 or even 50 how does it work? Then do I put his name down at the bottom as co author or just in the credits at the back? I will be writing it so what do I do?

Thanks that really clarifies things, yes the name business would be a problem perhaps fake ones would be an option.

You don't necessarilly have to including him as a co-author, you could dedicate tthe book to him with an opening acknowledgment. As to the percentage, like any business venture, that is down to an agreement between the two parties. For the sake of your friendship, I personally would draw up an agreement with a solicitor.

Another option is to Ghostwrite the book, which means that his name goes on the cover and you take a percentage.

Biographies are a tricky business especially when involving friends and relatives, as my cousin discovered much to his cost, so I do know what I am talking about. Also one thing to consider, is that if you mention somebody in the book who doesn't like what they read, then you could find yourself in court, so please, tread very carefully with this project.
