I'm considering starting a blog, I've never done anything like this before so I'm working out how to start. What I wonder though is this a good way to get your work seen? I'm not sure how it all works so if anyone out there has used a blog I would be interested to hear about it.

I also blog regularly, and have found that my writing has improved because of it - there are loads of blog writing challenges and contests out there, plus it's a great way to network and learn more about all types of publishing. It's also a pretty good promotional tool, if you target it correctly - I know I've certainly gained readers through my blog.

I blog through Wordpress, which I've found to be very user friendly and, other than my own domain name, it's free to use.

Only one caveat: if something is posted on your blog I understand it counts as "published" and so would not be eligible for entry to writing competitions, such as those advertised on this site.

I write a regular blog and the best way to start to get your work seen is to post it on a web site, if you have your own that is the best. Then get the link from the site and post these links on any social media sites you are linked to, including Facebook, LinkedIn and any others. Send the blog link also by email to your friends or others on email who you think would appreciate receiving it. This is the basic form of "driving traffic" to your web site. Also leave a link elsewhere on other blog or news sites (where you are allowed) when you are commenting on anything related to the subject of your blog.
