Blogs/Snippets

Hi all, can I ask when you post snippets onto your blog are you afraid that someone will steal your work? How much do you put on the blog! And do you feel that it helps with your work! I've been wanting to put my work on my blog but have been afraid to do so!

I agree with Garry - who'd want to steal it? In any case, once written it's your copyright so in theory you could pursue anyone who re-used or copied it through the courts.

Problem is that you want people to read your stuff so at some point you have to bite the bullet and put it out there.

Plenty of writers post snippets on blogs and websites. In my own case, I post the first couple of novel chapters - 2 so far unpublished - because visitors may want to check how they read before committing. It's a bit like Amazon's 'look inside' feature, I suppose.

I wouldn't post a complete outline, though, or an unconfirmed cover picture, unless for a particular reason. No point inviting the copyists :)

Heya. Yes, my writing is under GarryKE. It's a really good site. I'll be really interest to view yours too if you get an account on there.

Yeah, there is definitely some great stuff on that site. It's worth checking out. However, if you're thinking of having any of your work published, I'm not at the moment sure about the legal issues that may arise from having work published online by yourself through those licenses and digital rights that DeviantART uses so you'd have to find out one way or another, I'm afraid. But for just show-casing it yourself and getting feedback from a community of artists, it's truly one of the best sites out there for it.

And yes, I feel a tinge of jealousy at some of the works I see people made too :)

Is some of your work on there? Some of those are really really good! I wish I could draw like that!
