In the short story competition, is the word limit of 2000 words totally rigid or slightly flexible?

We receive over 1500 entries each year and have to be very thorough in our judging process, so I'm afraid we're normally quite strict on the word count.

From the lack of an answer to this from the powers that be, I would guess 'slightly flexible', as long as it does not exceed 2000 words.
