Could it be that Paul Garside is absolutely right? This whole so-called competition idea seems to be nothing but exploiting people's genuine wish to write and trying to hook them into writers' workshops

I have the strong feeling it is all about dream-peddling, i.e. making business contacts at the expense of people's dreams. Sad, but true.
Hey you guys, I respect your innocence. But the whole procedure in connection with this particular competition ( poem wins short story competition) ( names get mixed up) indicates that there is at least a lack of professionalism in connection with the competition principle. And a lot of indication that it is all a scam.
Bloomsbury are a business, they're not going to give £500 away for fun. It's a competition without an entry fee, there's got to be some reason for them to run it. Of course it's PR for their services, why wouldn't it be?
