Hi Shaun, I don't think you have to be "somewhat cynical/brooding/darkly humourous" to be a writer, but you do need imagination and a good sense of observation.

It's hard to say that a story is "truly nice". A story can be lighthearted but it still needs depth. It can be positive but the characters have to grow or change or go through something.

The story I wrote involves children who are constantly playing tricks on each other so it's fairly lighthearted, but they still have to work through their anger and resolve their arguments.

Have you tried writing anything that doesn't have a sinister element?

Ashwerya-- you're story sounds interesting, I'd like to read it, but I looked through the first seven pages of shared works and couldn't find it. How can I find it?

Hi All. Mine too was a dark tale about a girl called Joy (or is she?) and I simply called it 'Joy', oh well!

Good luck!

Thanx Shah, Shaun, Tamsin, Jazzmine for the reply, but I don't think that Joy should be the title, it was the theme, which is again a very broad theme.

Even if you put joy in title or not, it doesn't makes a difference. The story should have joy or search of joy somewhere. that's what I think.

Good Luck to all entrants.
