Copy Editing

I would like to ask how long one would expect a manuscript copy editing to take, this is a novellette.

I expect it depends on the amount of work the copy editor has, before he/she has time to look at my book, am I right?

Replies

Thank you, I have surrendered my manuscript and paid for the work to be done - Copy Editing,I didnt however think of asking how long the preliminary work would take.

Thank you so much for your reply, I will now investigate the matter.

Before you go any further, I strongly suggest you look up "Society for Editors and Proofreaders. and arm yourself with that information, on industry standards, fees, codes of conduct etc., before you continue. I didn't and got stung. Then, I'd suggest you check out a few websites of firms who do this work, give them the word count, and ask how long they take and when they'd have someone available. Get moving! there'll be lots of Theses to be read and checked in a month or two, leading to long waits!
