Hi all. How and when do you copyright your work? Back in the day I was told to just post the whole ms to myself but not to open the envelope. I'm just curious how it's done now. Thanks

About the article:

Curious, but (to Adrian Sroka):

Aesop, Lafontaine and Krylov are not named in the article.

The story that various narrators retell is the consecration of a single event by journalists from different newspapers, a story about the life of a person famous in history, one genre. But in all cases, everything is clean.

It’s bad when someone else’s work is completely replicated, for which a lot of time and effort was spent, for example, they tried to patent the esc button to patent that everyone using it would pay money to a rich person paying a patent tax. It's bad when people steal prose, copying the text itself for sure. In this case there is a legal possibility to issue a copy of it with a notary, a more expensive way is to print several copies yourself and hand them over to the state archive with IBSN. You can send yourself a letter in an envelope to put the manuscript, and then do not open it if there is no trial. A good way, but here it is better to send several letters: the world is criminal, judging by the literature and network gossip one letter and one court decision will be lost and the next court will demand its not opened letter. You can email the manuscript to the box that you will open to the judges.

The authorship of the book can be registered even with a notary for each sheet of the manuscript, but it is expensive.

Thank you Jonathan and Adrian. I think leaning on the side of caution may be the best thing to do. I feel I would copyright my work if I had spent months or years creating it. But I'm sure not everyone would worry about it which is their own choice. At the end it is all a matter of choice.
