The cost of editing...?

One of my glaring faults is my lack of ability to spot ask of the errors I put into my work. Grammar I can learn, hopefully, but I am an atrocious self-proof-reader.

So far I have had some amazing and honest feedback from people on here, including Lorraine and Jimmy's formidable editing hats! However, I think I'll need to pay for an editorial service at some point.

Before this becomes a submission rather than a question, how much would you effect to pay for an editor to look at a piece of work (Leeds than 20,000 words, for example)?

What is too cheap? What would clearly be a rip-off?

Cheers,

Steve

Leeds than 20,000 words? You need a proof-reader!

The professional rates suggested below are by the hour, which isn't a lot of help if you have no idea how long it takes; but given your level of language skills, it shouldn't be that long - 6-7 hours or so. You're not looking for a full edit, presumably - more a correcting of loose punctuation of the sort I did for your latest piece.

I'd usually suggest the first couple of chapters (or a reasonable percentage) for free, to see how long it's likely to take, and then see if that's acceptable.

Hope this helps.
