How do people deal with writers block?

Replies

Writers deal with block in many different ways and its just as case of finding what's the best for yourself. Victoria says put the story away - this is probably the most common answer, and indeed sound advice. Sometimes you do need to take that break away from your story and work at something else for a while. Other methods include simply re-reading what you have so far, picking up the thread as it were, and hope that by the end, you have an idea of where to take the story next.

I once spoke to somebody who said that before he sat down to write, he would drink a pint of water, and then wouldn't allow himself a toilet break until he had written a full page... Though I would not personally reccomend this solution.

I put the story away until a new idea comes into my head that can be used in the piece :)
