Deciding what your character is

by Victoria Constant

I have just uploaded a competition entry I have submitted this year; however I cannot for the life of me decide what exactly my main character is. The only thing I do know is she is NOT a vampire aha. Caon someone read it and let me know what they think? Thank you :)

PS: Because EM is not the easiest of sites to navigate, here's the link to the General Folklore index which you might also find useful. It's more extensive than the Bestiary.

Hi Victoria,

I really enjoyed reading that. She's certainly not a nice... whatever-she-is, is she? I like her already!

I think I can see where you're coming from. She has some traits of a vampire but is going a lot further than the typical blood-sucker might. You could possibly argue that she is some kind of "bad" fairy associated to the Unseelie Court. That consists of a huge variety of creatures including my personal favourite, the Nuckelavee. You might also be able to associate her with the banshee, or some kind of vampiric hybrid. The flesh-eating suggests to me that she may have werewolf in her genes somewhere. I hope that this gives you some ideas or leads that you can work through. Why not also have a look through Encyclopaedia Mythica's Bestiary (http://www.pantheon.org/areas/bestiary/articles.html). It might provide some prompts or leads for you to follow.

I hope that this helps you.

Best wishes,

Rob.
