Do you listen to music while you write?

I like listening to music while I write, as long as it doesn't have lyrics. I find soundtracks to favourite/relevant movies help put you in the mood and they just fade into the background while you work.

I was just wondering what kind of music (if any) other people listen to when they're writing?

Cheers for the comments guys, and happy new year!!!

Yes, I do listen to music while I write. But mainly its those songs to which I don't remember the lyrics because otherwise I wouldn't help but sing along.

I usually go for such artists that I like but haven't heard their particular songs before like Coldplay, The Fray or Snow Patrol. But sometimes I need the silence to let the words come to me.

Hi Alex.

I find listening to favourite pieces of classical music inspiring. It puts me in a good mood to write. However, if I have to concentrate completely on a particular aspect of my novel, then I write in silence.

Unlike Victoria there is no association between my characters and the pieces of music I play. But I have a large selection of classical composers to choose from. When I write I hope that their genius rubs off on me.

I hope that helps.

Good luck.
