Well, exactly as it says in the title - is it normal practice to get feedback online for competition entry pieces before you submit? If it was a 'real world' writing group I wouldn't think there was anything unusual about seeking feedback before submission, but somehow it doesn't feel quite right online. I'm not sure why that is. What do you generally do?
Thanks, Deborah.
Thanks both for your advice. I don't know why I have this feeling that it would look like cheating to get advice online - I wouldn't have that feeling about asking friends or a real-life group. I'll look up the closed group Victoria. Thanks again.
I used to show my work in a closed online group so it hadn't been published to the web for all to see. Different comps have different rules on that sort of thing and I think most are fine about you getting online feedback on a WIP these days, but I would still look for a closed group. The one I used was Chapter 79. It still exists.
I think it all depends on who you would be showing it to.
I understand your feelings re online. It's hard to truly judge someones trustworthiness and things online tend to be a viewed as public property.
It's all too easy to get burned.
However when I was in a writer's circle I would have (and did, for them). But I knew some of the members personally and this was a trust we had all built up over a couple of years. Such would usually be sent via email (or selected member settings on blogs.)
