Does it HAVE to be word?

So I'm getting close to send my MS off, and I've been keeping my eye on Bloomsbury Spark. But it says the MS has to be in Word, is this a must? Or can it be in something else like OpenOffice (which I use) as long as Word can open it?

The reason to select this version is that not everyone has the latest Word ... this will open the document in all versions except the absolutely ancient.

Click on ‘file’, then ‘Save as’ and underneath the file name that you select there is a pull down menu. Select

‘Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP (.doc)’

Remember to send this file and not the original one ;)

You can select this format as the default setting for future documents so that you don’t have to bother each time. Open a new document and click on 'tools' then 'options'. Then select 'Load/Save' and open the pull downs - select 'General'. At the bottom there's an option to 'Always save as' ... select the option I put above ... sometimes you have to scroll up to find it.

Done and dusted! Good luck!

I might be wrong here, but I'm sure that OpenOffice gives you the option to save the file in the Word format, or certainly a format which Word can open.

If you go to file Save As, under the document name there should be a box that says 'save as type' or something like that. Scroll down the list and you should either see 'doc' or 'docx' as an option. These are the two file types that will be recognised by Word.

Just be careful though, as I think if you edit the document again, it will revert back to the original file format so you will have to do the same again each time you save it.
