Does literature still exist?

There has been a massive decline in civilization, I find. Kids can't read, write, or even talk properly anymore. I just want to know if you think that this is it for literature. David Foster Wallace hanged himself a few years back, Salinger and Vonnegut are dead and there hasn't been a decent poet since Gregory corso died, do you think writing is dead?

I think so many children are now into technology that important things are being forgotten, like how to play, interact, share, read, write etc. About 15 years ago I worked in a preschool for children aged 2-4 and we had an OFSTED inspection who slated us for not having computers! Yet our children were polite, shared, took turns, played nicely together and were happy in the company of others. One of their favourite parts of the day was storytime and sharing books and as I began working with older children, they too enjoyed this activity. However, some years on, it seems they 'don't need to learn to write and spell, Miss, because the computer will do it for me.' I'm afraid that technology has had a very negative impact on children these days and I'm not sure how to change that. They pnly seem motivated by computer games and many of them are not age appropriate and often involve violence. Sad times :-(
