The recent worldwide cyber-attack is of serious concern for would-be authors, however, we can be certain that it will not be the last.
How cruel it would be for a Worm Virus to infect your PC/Laptop, corrupt your files, and then infect your online storage facility.
Due you trust drop-box or many of the other online storage facilities? Worm viruses can penetrate them.
Does your antivirus software protect you from Ransomware viruses?
I use Bitdefender, which is award-winning antivirus software. There is a free Bitdefender app for mobile phones.
What off-line precautions have you taken to safeguard your work?
E-mail addresses and online storage facilities can be hacked.
The safest way to protect your work is off-line - on a memory stick, external hard drive, or burned to a disc.
I don't use Dropbox or cloud storage facilities. Their promoters are far too confident of their invincible security for my liking.
Hia Adrian. My answer, and my only recommendation is multiple copies. I store most of my work in the cloud, but that's because I'm obsessive over version control so I create multiple copies which would feel redundant on a hard drive. I'm not so bothered about filling up someone else's space. I try to keep a copy on my home drive and I frequently have a hard copy as my pet proof readers prefer them.
Although I've not been hit this attack had made me more conscious of being disorganised and probably a bit complacent with regards to how these things get into my PC. Time to clear out my email inbox and review my security software while I'm at it!
