Has anyone here had any language barrier problems? I would like to write a memoir but find myself struggling with the language since Spanish is my first language and I don't want to lose the reader's attention. Will the website help me with this issue if possible? Sorry I'm new to this writing process of my own life and I'm looking for my best options, I know it will be a bit of a challenge but I'm up for it.

I could write a 20,000 word novel, the problem will be having a wide vocabulary so I won't repeat the same words. I came across a book related to what I want to be my book about it's called Vow and it was published by Bloomsbury. I came out with the idea of writing a memoir relating to recently events in my life. This book will be about my marriage, how it went downhill, the things that happened that were leading us to a divorce, a pregnancy not knowing who the father was, cheating and how we found out about the betrayal, drugs, trust, friendship, financial problems (I mean everything was just the perfect recipe for disaster, no one will bid a penny for the saving of our relationship). How at one point all of those things were adding to the perfect storm and all of a sudden, we, at one point found all the pieces of the puzzle and were able to save our marriage, without seeking professional or spiritual help. It will be erotic since there is a lot of sex involve, talk about the process, what we went through, how we found our true-selves and the feelings and desires we exposed to each other, things we were afraid to tell or show after 9 years of being together. We want to inspire and let people know that a bad experience does not always lead to a split, they can actually be the most amazing thing that could've ever happen and turned into something positive and will lead to a better relationship. How having that connection would freak you out sometimes, he can speak out loud what I'm thinking in a certain moment; how we can feel out of space, feel like we weren't inside our own bodies, you feel you’re in a dream but reality seems to feel so much better that you want to wake up to it.

How fluent are you in English? I have been taught English first in Africa where I lived and then in India, before I came to live in Britain. So English is my first language, but it isn't strictly the Queen's English. I was extremely worried about how my English was perceived, but have since had my writing reviewed and no longer worry about it too much.

Are you confident in being able to write your memoir as a novel (20,000 words) or a novel (non-fiction length variable)? It would be a good idea to post some 3000 words on this site, you will get 50 points straight away and then can ask readers to comment on style and language.

Also get some friends or other well-wishers to review your work and comment on the English, so that you can evaluate how your language is perceived by readers.

The Editorial Services section of *this* website would certainly be something to look in to - if you're worried about the writing being a bit 'off' then having it reviewed is always good. Also, though, just practicing writing will help you get better - writing short pieces, posting them here for review, maybe seeing if there are writing groups in a nearby library, etc.
