Hmmm, that's not fair trying to make us narrow down to just one!
At the moment, Phillip Pullman.
I read His Dark Materials and the Sally Lockhart series a few years ago. I have more recently read The Good Man Jesus and the Scoundrel Christ. It has the best back cover blurb - THIS IS A STORY in big letters.
My all time favourite has been 'Enid Blyton'. Her style, distinctiveness and clarity in writing has held me captive in her grasp...... :D
But in contemporary authors , I love 'Charles Dickens', especially his novel 'Oliver Twist'....
My favourite traditional author is Jane Austen.
You don't accidently stumble onto perfection six times - Walter Allen.
My favourite contemporary author is Michael Morpurgo.
Those two are closely followed by Rosemary Sutcliff, Henry Treece, Eva Ibbotson and Sharon Creech.
