Festivals

Hi, was wondering what everyone's opinions were on attending writing festivals? I am think of going to CrimeFest in Bristol later this year but considering all the costs was wondering if it is really worth it.

I do like the idea that one gets a one-on-one with an agent which is always better than a cold-call query email.

I've never had the money to go to one, but I would go if I could! I can't give you any proper answer here, but I think any opportunity to meet with other writers, get a taste of how the professional writing world looks like, and especially talk to agents in person, is a great thing. Don't look at it as one festival - look at it more like one of the many things along the way to a writing career.

If you can afford it, I think it's worth it long term, if nothing else then to be able to someday say "I've attended this and that festival/conference" in whatever context.
