Now on second correction, rewrite of first novel. Should I look for an agent/publisher or self publish?

Well, maybe a gamble, but then even the best book ever written may fail to find an agent. Times are changing. eBooks do get your work out there and being read now, and it is not unheard of for a self-published novel to be taken up by a publisher and given a print-run as well. Some publishers are even offering eBook only deals, with a print-run to follow if sales are favourable.
Exposure has its own merits. I guess if a book is good enough (with the right kind of luck) it will succeed, and comes down to how confident you are in your work and your ability to market it. Easy to say, I know.
Personally, I would like an Agent or Publisher on my side.
They have the contacts and knowledge, and all the distribution heartaches sown up etc.
Similarly, I believe an editor in the field has a much better idea of where my book needs changes, where its strengths are, and that their expertise will make my book the best it can be. Plus, they provide a ready ear for when I need feedback or inspiration.

Thanks John. Sound advice. Self-publishing seems to be a huge gamble.
