Full manuscrip request and responce?

Hi, I met an agent just over a week ago and he requested the whole manuscript, which I sent to him, following all the guidelines that he emailed me.

I was wondering how long it might take for him to get back to me, and what I'm more likely to get as response: rejection or good news?

Due to some unusual circumstances I met him before I sent in any sample chapters, but I somehow managed to pitch the book in person and he seemed really interested and we began some communication, which led to him asking for the whole thing, by email, when his agency is post submissions only.

Are these good developments or am I only getting my hopes up for no reason? I've never had an legitimate agent express such interest as he did, but I don't want to email and annoy him with questions on when I'll find out if he liked my novel.

Thanks. (the stress is kind of freaking me out at this point.) :)

Good Luck Kimberley and let us know what happens!

As other contributors have said, if he or his website haven't given any indication, then you could hear within a matter of days or several weeks. There doesn't seem to be an average response time for these things but it is a good sign that he asked for a full.

I agree about the 6 week turnaround. If you haven't heard anything by then, it might be an idea to drop him a brief, polite e-mail asking if he has had an opportunity to read it yet.

Fingers crossed for you!

Hello, I'm submitting at the mo and if I had a situation like this...I would be excited too :) Enjoy it, but be patient...and try to keep your hopes realistic. If that is not an impossible thing to ask...

I assume that you checked out this agent, and agencies, credentials and all is legit?

If the agency has a website the expected turnaround time will be there in the submissions section. This will give you a guide, it may be that you hear from him earlier...or that you have to give a polite query in due time. Might I ask, is it an exclusive? If so this shows some serious intent.

Best of luck, whatever may happen this is a good step forward :)

Also, a lot of agents who have post only subs will accept email subs if you query politely. I simply cannot afford post!

First I wish you good luck, second as you did not send in the first 3 chapters he might find it easier just to ask for the lot.

Give him some time to read it, 4 weeks would not be a lot to ask for but after 6 I would send him an email if you have not heard anything from him.

I do wish you luck and hope you get the good new you deserve...... keep us all up to date

Regards
